I love to teach, especially when it is with a group of people who want to learn. I also think that being an effective teacher requires creativity and a commitment to continually work at how and what is being taught. I never do the same lecture twice. In fact, to call it a “lecture” would be inaccurate. When I teach I make sure to create interactive sessions that encourage dialog. I rely on the intellect and intention that is present in the classroom way more than I rely on PowerPoint! The job of a teacher, particularly at a graduate level is to bring out the perspectives and experiences that are present in the room.
Today I teach in two masters programs at Virginia Commonwealth University. My subjects are leadership, organizational culture, and business coaching.
